Interesting ruins and the tree that had grown around the Buddha head provides ample photo opportunities. Remember this is a religious site so be respectful of the place you are in.

This is where you can view the iconic Buddha head in tree roots. Entrance runs 50 Baht, but you can get a pass that covers the 6 main temples for 220 Baht (recommended as each temple has the 50B fee).

Entry 50thb for foreigners and 10 thb for thai people. Get an audio guide is a good advise as it helps a lot understanding about the place all along the walk in the ruins of this historical place.

วัดมหาธาตุ เป็นวัดที่มีความสำคัญในสมัยกรุงศรีอยุธยา เป็นวัดที่ประดิษฐานพระบรมธาตุ ใจกลางพระนคร และยังเป็นที่พำนักของ สมเด็จพระสังฆราช ฝ่ายคามวาสี วัดได้รับการดูแล จนถูกทำลายลงหลังเสียกรุงครั้งที่ 2

องค์พระศรีรัตนมหาธาตุสร้างปีพ.ศ.1917 ในรัชสมัยสมเด็จพระบรมราชาธิราชที่1 แต่ไม่แล้วเสร็จ สมเด็จพระราเมศวร สร้างต่อจนเสร็จสมบูรณ์ พระปรางค์ได้พังทลายลง2ครั้ง จนมีสภาพดังที่เห็นในปัจจุบัน

เมื่อคราวเสียกรุงครั้งที่ ๒ วัดมหาธาตุถูกไฟไหม้เสียหายเป็นอันมากและถูกทิ้งร้างเรื่อยมา จนถึงรัชกาลที่ ๖ แห่งกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์พระปรางค์องค์ใหญ่ได้พังลงมาอีกครั้งหนึ่งดังที่เห็นในปัจจุบัน
