Fort Belan is unique. It was built in 1775 by Thomas Wynn MP, who was later to become Lord Newborough, as a defence against a possible American attack during the American War of Independence.
It is now owned by the Blundell family, who organised an Open Doors event in September 2013 at which these pictures were taken.
Bizarrely, I spent most of the summer of 1980 at Fort Belan. At that time the Fort was open to visitors and one of the attractions was a small pottery in which I worked during a gap year after leaving school. More about Fort Belan here:

Mae Caer Belan yn unigryw. Fe'i godwyd yn 1775 gan Thomas Wynn AS, a ddaeth wedyn yn Arglwydd Niwbwrch, fel amddiffynfa rhag ymosodiadau posibl gan Americannwyr yn ystod Rhyfel Annibynniaeth America.
Mae'r Gaer yn eiddo i deulu Blundell bellach, a drefnodd ddigwyddiad 'Drysau Agored' ym mis Medi 2013, pan dynnais i'r lluniau hyn.
Yn rhyfedd iawn, fe dreuliais i'r rhan fwyaf o haf 1980 yng Nghaer Belan. Roedd y Gaer yn agored i ymwelwyr ar y bryd ac un o'r atyniadau oedd crochendy bach lle roeddwn i'n gweithio yn ystod blwyddyn i ffwrdd ar ol gadael yr ysgol. Rhagor am Gaer Belan yma:
