Photos of Start Point Lighthouse

Exposed by petefoto

Start Point is one of the most exposed peninsulars on the Engish coast. The ridge of rock runs sharply out to sea for approximately one mile. Start Point Lighthouse is located at the end and the house is the residence of the lightkeeper. The lighthouse was built in 1836 and stands 62 metres above sea level. The light is white group flash three every 10 sec and has a range of 25 nautical miles. It was automated in 1993. I visited the afternoon before climbed the ridge nearly got blown over in a strong wind but managed a few shots in the lee of the ridge. The following morning I returned to try and get a sunrise the wind strength had reduced and I sat on the ridge. It was cold and peaceful the sunrise was colourful and I took the above shot. f10 iso 100 24mm 21sec Filters B&W nd 106,Lee 0.9h grad
