Philip de Barry founded the priory of St. Thomas à Becket at Ballybeg for the Canons Regular of St. Augustine in 1229 - priests who lived according to the monastic rule. The ruins are open to the public
The round building behind the ruins is a Dovecot (Columbarium) one of the finest examples of a medieval Dovecot in Ireland. The brethren would feed the doves surplus grain & the doves would be used as food. Jackdaws now live in the ruins instead of doves you can just see them on top of the walls
